AGF Joined Act 1.5 and EXPEDITION ONE to Accelerate Climate Action in Liverpool
Few weeks ago we had an incredible experience at EXPEDITION ONE at Exhibition Centre Liverpool and M&S Bank Arena (28 - 30 November), where we celebrated Liverpool becoming the first-ever UN Accelerator City for Climate Action under UN Climate Change’s Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action programme.
Following Massive Attack’s groundbreaking ‘climate action accelerator’ Act 1.5 show in Bristol where AGF were involved in implementing sustainable initiatives, the Liverpool events took place from the 28 – 30 November at Liverpool M&S Bank Arena featuring Massive Attack, IDLES and Nile Rodgers and CHIC, with the aim of extensively reducing carbon emissions compared to the impact of standard live music events.
In addition to the live music events, there were 2 days of insights and learning at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool on 29th and 30th November.
Our team was part of the high level industry summit EXPEDITION ONE taking place on Friday 29th November to launch Liverpool as the UN Accelerator City and to set the agenda for the next 12 months of decarbonisation experiments across TV/Film and music.
Moreover we also hosted LAB 6 on ‘Mapping Impact: The Air We Breathe’, alongside the European Space Agency and Civic Health Innovations Lab (CHIL). The focus on a highly innovative pilot bringing together sectoral, academic, and scientific partners - to explore the potential of a universal visualised data hub, charting both greenhouse gas emissions, broader event impacts and public health impacts from air pollution to wellbeing around live music productions. The objective - healthy people, planet and places through shared event impact, civic health and satellite data.
AGF team members were also on hand throughout the day providing lab technicians to support the delivery of key lab discussions and to capture the essence of the working group's objectives, actions and next steps, we were also exploring all the the impacts of climate change through an immersive experience by european space agency and attend other interesting panels and talks.
The AGF team are now busy collating and crunching the numbers for the CO2 and sustainability impact reports of both the shows and the conference.
This industry summit organised by Act 1.5 set the agenda for the next 12 months of decarbonisation experiments across the TV/Film and music industries, further accelerating ongoing efforts in these sectors. The free public event on 30 November was a wonderful conclusion, featuring live podcasts, Q&As, and performances designed for inquisitive minds of all ages.
Massive Attack’s Act 1.5 Climate Action Accelerator and Liverpool Accelerator City will be discussed in more detail at our foremost conference for event sustainability the Green Events and Innovations Conference (GEI17) at the Royal Lancaster London on Tuesday 25th February 2025
