AGF Insider: Trends and Best Practices in Sustainability with Fruzsina Szép

Welcome to AGF Insider, our exciting new series where we bring you monthly interviews with industry experts.

Each month we catch up with an industry leader in the sustainability world to find the current trends and best practices.

This month we catch up with Fruzsina Szép, Managing & Festival Director SUPERBLOOM

What are the best practices that you are seeing give the best results at Superbloom

To lower the consumption of fossil fuels, a large percentage of our energy comes from the grid.  We’ve also included a public transportation ticket as part of the festival ticket to reduce single  occupancy cars arriving at the site.

We take different actions to utilise our resources efficiently. For instance, we include binding sustainability rules for sponsoring partners including a ban on single use plastic.

Our comprehensive inclusion concept strives to maximise participation in society, so we’re  constantly working with different specialists and experts in this field.

What trends are you seeing this year at Superbloom

We see trends in sustainable food and reductions in transportation emissions.
To promote  sustainable food options, the crew will be offered a wide selection of plant-based meals in  catering. And to better understand the environmental impact of transportation and set better  suited initiatives, we'll be collecting accurate data on emissions, including arrival and departure  of visitors, suppliers, and crew.

What are the obstacles you have?

This year we’re really focused on car journey and keeping the number of people travelling by car  below 20% in order to reduce CO2 emissions. We have already considered various measures,  such as those I previously mentioned, to achieve this.

What’s the next big thing in sustainability in events and especially at Superbloom

Collaboration between industry and sustainability experts is essential to develop more efficient  approaches that consider environmental and social aspects simultaneously. Our festival  sustainability team plays a crucial role in bridging this gap and has allowed us to create a more  holistic approach to sustainability at Superbloom.

What would be the biggest game changer from your perspective?

Sustainability is an ongoing process, and we're committed to making progress.
One way we're  achieving this is by transitioning the power for outdoor stages from diesel generators to grid connection. This significantly reduces our carbon footprint and could be expanded even further across the festival. We also believe in the power of collaboration and have a system for  gathering ongoing feedback from crew and visitors about our sustainability efforts. This two-way  communication allows us to identify areas for improvement and develop creative solutions  together. It's all about working as a team to make a positive impact!
