Are you a Student Recycling Champion? Reading needs you!
A nationwide search for a team of Student Recycling Champions to help spread the green message at Reading Festival, is now open for entry. The brand new competition promises its winners the chance to see behind the scenes at Reading Festival and make a valuable contribution to the event’s environmental efforts. The competition also offers the opportunity to work with industry leaders to gain an impressive experience to add to your CV, and a day off to enjoy some of the bands on the line-up.
The search has been launched by recycling programme Every Can Counts, which works with some of the UK’s major music and outdoor events including Red Bull Flugtag, Isle of Wight, Download, Global Gathering, Latitude and V Festivals. Last summer it helped recycle over one million cans at music events.
To be in with a chance of winning, entrants simply have to suggest a bright idea to encourage more festival-goers to do the right thing with their empty drink cans. This could be a new way of rewarding recyclers for positive behaviour, a bigger and better way to promote the recycling message, or simply a way of making recycling more appealing. Whether you’re a budding marketing mogul who knows how to spread the word, an Environmental Scientist in the making with a passion for the planet, or a people person blessed with the power of persuasion - this is your opportunity to shine.
Three lucky winners will form the team of Student Recycling Champions and each will receive a weekend wristband to work for two days onsite and will be rewarded with a day off on Sunday. The winners will see all aspects of the festival’s recycling operation, work closely with Every Can Counts and the waste management team to interact with festival-goers and encourage them to recycle more. The winners will also take part in a training workshop and have the opportunity to write about their experiences in an editorial shared with sustainability industry leaders.
If you think you’ve got what it takes, send your big idea on how to increase drinks can recycling at music festivals to everycancounts@onechocolatecomms.co.uk. Provide your full name, the name of university or college, course you’re studying or graduated from, and examples of previous experience that demonstrates your passion for the environment and why you think you fit the role.
The competition is open to students who are currently studying at, or have graduated in or after 2011, from a UK university or college. The closing date for entries is midnight, Sunday 8th July 2012.
