BRIAN ENO FORMS EARTHPERCENT
EarthPercent seeks to include the planet as a stakeholder by asking artists, companies and individuals to commit a small percentage of their revenue to EarthPercent who will then distribute this money to the most impactful organisations working on the climate emergency with the guidance of an advisory panel of climate experts, leading scientists and youth activists.Formed in partnership with leading music industry environmental organisations Music Declares Emergency, Julie’s Bicycle, and A Greener Festival, EarthPercent is now set up in the UK and the USA, bringing together leading industry figures such as Mike Smith, Jamie Oborne, Alison Donald and more as part of their growing 40+ worldwide committee.EarthPercent‘s stellar advisory panel makes the process simple for the music industry to donate towards environmental organisations, safe in the knowledge the money will be reaching only those projects with demonstrable and meaningful impact.Founding donors include Merck Mercuriadis, Fraser T Smith, Coldplay, and more.“Our future depends on us having a healthy planet. But right now, our actions are severely damaging the environment. We need to act now and as quickly as possible to ensure that we keep our communities clean, healthy and thriving for generations to come. Many within the music industry want to do something to address the climate crisis but simply don’t know how, which is why EarthPercent is working with scientists and experts to identify and fund the most promising solutions.” - BRIAN ENO “Currently, less than 2% of global philanthropic funding is dedicated to addressing climate change, not nearly enough to meet the scale of the global challenge. EarthPercent believes philanthropy – through its power to take risks, be disruptive, test ideas and scale solutions – can play an important role in accelerating change and realising our vision, particularly through collaboration with like-minded allies in the music industry, climate movement, science community, government and civil society.” - MIKE SMITH MORE INFO: EarthPercent’s mission is to give direct and meaningful support to those at the forefront of climate justice while reducing our impact on the planet - as an industry and as part of a global society. We will do this by raising money from the music industry to fund the most credible and impactful climate actions and environmental causes that deliver transformative change. We are aiming to raise $100 million from the industry by 2030, investing in efforts towards the following goals:
- IMPROVING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
- REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMMISSIONS AND SUPPORTING CLEAN ENERGY
- SECURING CLIMATE JUSTICE AND FAIR ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
- ADVANCING SYSTEMIC ECONOMIC, LEGAL AND POLICY CHANGE
- PROTECTING, CONSERVING, AND RESTORING NATURE
We want to encourage artists and music-related organisations to pledge a small percentage of their income to EarthPercent. This percentage can be collected at source and diverted to EarthPercent where it will be directed to the most impactful organisations addressing the climate crisis.
