Chorlton’s first-ever Big Green Festival
Taking place on Saturday 4 April 2009, Chorlton’s Big Green Festival is a brand-new date in South Manchester’s calendar. The Festival aims to draw attention to the issues relating to the environment and how to address these through sustainable living with a fun and exciting programme of events involving local residents, businesses and organisations.The issue of climate change and resource depletion is getting too big to ignore, and Chorlton’s Big Green Festival aims to help the community explore new and interesting ways to incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives – as Festival organiser Odette O’Reilly says: “Sustainable living doesn't haven't to be boring, and even small steps can make a big difference.”Chorlton's Big Green Festival promises to be an action-packed, fun-filled event showcasing all that's green and great in Manchester. There will be live entertainment, food and drink stalls, raffles and prizes, swap shops, therapy sessions, art exhibitions, craft workshops, talks and demonstrations by guest speakers, a programme of films, and an exciting foot-stomping ceilidh to round the whole Festival off. There will also be various bike-related events, including the Big Green Bike Parade starting at noon, and the Chorlton & The Wheelie Bins display andcompetition of decorated recycling bins, sponsored by Manchester City Council.Renowned for its concentration of ethically aware, environmentally friendly residents and businesses, Chorlton is the ideal place for a festival of this kind, and the event promises to be a stimulating, interesting and entertaining day out for all the family.Taking place at the St Clement’s venue, Chorlton's Big Green Festival will combine outdoor stages and stalls, tents and teepees with indoor zones, including a healing area, chill-out room and live music space.
