City of London looks greener
This is the first year the City of London Festival has applied for our Greener Festival Award and we are right in the middle of the independent green audit - but the Festival has some great initiatives. Annoyingly we managed to miss the Bicycle Ballet down at Canary Wharf but Emily managed to catch up with Kai's Cats performing live (and for free) at Liverpool Street Station and Ben managed to visit the AWAY? exhibition in London Wall which had some marvellous examples of recycling: What is AWAY? - well they describe their mission thus: "It's stopped working .... it's old ... the latest model is out ... I don't like it anymore ..." and asks jJust how much stuff do we throw away anyway? AWAY? is housed in old shipping containers and it is an interactive exhibition that shows what you can do with so called rubbish -with some marvellous alternative options dreamt up by resourceful designers - a sofa made from old metal dustbins, a seat made from a shopping trolley, lights made from recycled plastic bottles - stools made from cardboard ... it's amazing! The City of London Fetsival runs through to the 7th August and there are still some highlights to come - The Sugar Kings at Barts Hospital on the 24th July at 12.30pm, Oompah Bass at Liverpool Street Station at 5.30pm, the Natural Theatre Company at New Street Square on the 28th July at 5pm, another free Liverpool Street Station show on the 31st July at 5.30pm with Cubana Bop and Balloonatic and the Dream Engine both in New Street Square (various times) on the 5th of August.
