Green Chief launches in Australia
A brand new company with expertise in environmentally friendly events has launched in Australia. The new organisation is headed up by Amie Green ,who has run our Greener Festival Awards scheme in Australia since 2008. The new Company, Green Chief Sustainability, has a fantastic website at http://greenchiefsustainability.com/ full of really really good advice and contacts for Australia. Its worth a visit even if you aren't in Australia!Amie says that Green Chief aims to specialise in producing tailor-made operational solutions to the environmentally conscious event. She also says that Green Chief is also committed to ‘walking the walk’ by running the company in the most sustainable manner possible. This means Green Chief buy recycled and Australian made goods, re-use materials and create re-useable equipment, minimise travel and offset carbon emissions when they do travel - and use 100% accredited green power at the office!Amie (on the right above, hope you guessed) says "before all of this rummaging around in skips and chasing people down who didn’t turn off lights, I worked in the real world for Live Nation, managing theatrical venues in the UK and when the sun came out I could be found working at festivals such as Bestival, Wireless, Hultsfred, Falls, Blues and Roots, and O2". Amie has a BA (Hons) in Music and Arts Management fro Buckinghamshire New University and she collects sustainable event ideas from around the World and encourages people to use their inner greenness. 2009 saw her as International Guest Speaker at the Sustainable Living Festival as in the Beyond Carbon Neutral Panel and as a speaker/workshop presenter for The Green Revolution panel at the International Event Summit. She says she "quite liked doing these talky things and finished up by running a panel for the combined One Movement For Music/ MUSEXPO conference discussing environmental sustainability and music". Oh, and amongst all that, also runs our Australian Greener Festival Awards!Green Chief Sustainability are currently providing the waste and recycling facilities at the 4000 capacity Maitreya 2010 Festival in Victoria. Compost collected at Maitreya went to the Shepparton Stephanie Alexander Kitchen gardens participant schools and aluminium cans and glass was collected by the Echuca scrap metal dealer. Previously Green Chief had been engaged as Waste & Recycling mangers at the 15,000 capacity Rainbow Serpent 2010, putting in place the popular Canaconda installation piece, alongside re-useable Bin Stations and Big Butts in the main arena. To tackle messy campsites, made worse this year by the gale force winds that swept the event on the opening night, the Loot Ute (daily recycling collection) and Bag Deposit Scheme were put in place, with 70% of people taking part in an important initiative to increase the amount of recyclables salvaged from campsite with minimal man hours.Have a look at the Green Chief site at http://greenchiefsustainability.com/ : There are a number of specific topic areas as well as useful links to green suppliers in Australia and advice on working at environmentally friendy festivals.
