Green Operations Award Long List announced for the European Festival Awards
The organisers of the Festival Awards Europe have revealed the long list of 18 nominees for this year’s Green Operations Award which is decided by an experienced industry jury selected by The Go Group (Green Operations Europe): Those nominees are:Bestival (UK)Cabaret Vert (FRA)Camp Bestival (UK)Croisant Neuf Summer Party (UK)Fusion (GER)Hurricane/Southside (GER)Illosaarirock (FIN)Indian Summer Festival (NL)Malmø Festival (SWE)Northside (DK)Øyafestival (NO)Rock For People (CZ)Ruisrock (FIN)Shambala festival (UK)Smukfest Skanderborg (DK)Terraneo (CRO)Tollwood Festival (GER)Way Out West (SWE)The Green Operations Award, introduced in 2012, is an annual award presented by Yourope and the GO Group. Its target group are festivals that have made a significant contribution to or achievement towards developing more sustainable events. Examples for respective achievements are practises and systems introduced at their own event, the development of good practices, which they have shared with other events, a specific innovation or continuous improvements over a number of years. The Award is given out by a panel made up of experts that are not directly linked to any specific festival with the exception that the previous year’s winner will be invited to cast a vote for the following year’s award only.This year’s Green Operations Award Jury consists of:Teresa Moore (Bucks New University, UK)Claire O’Neill (A Greener Festival, UK)Linnéa Svensson (Greener Event Foundation, NOR)Marie Sabot (of last year’s winner: We Love Green, FRA)Jacob Bilabel (Green Music Initiative, GER)Holger Jan Schmidt (GreenEvents Europe, Yourope, GER)The final short list, selected by the jury will be announced together with the other European Festival Awards short lists.Green Operations Award coordinator and Yourope’s anchorman for green issues Holger Jan Schmidt (GreenEvents Europe) says: “The festival scene is the true spearhead of the green events movement in Europe.
