Peppermint’s Sustainability Journey with A Greener Future

We recently caught up with Adam Hempenstall, co-founder of Peppermint, to discuss their ongoing collaboration with A Greener Future on their sustainability journey. Since 2018, Peppermint has been working closely with AGF to measure and reduce their carbon emissions. Adam shared insights into how this partnership has shaped Peppermint's strategy to become a Net Zero business.

Peppermint began its sustainability journey in 2018, collaborating with A Greener Future CEO Claire O’Neill. In 2019, the focus was on measuring their baseline carbon footprint to guide future sustainability efforts.

The first report landed mid-way through 2020 (a time where the event’s industry was a little ‘quieter’ than usual) and Peppermint set about its strategy to deliver its plan to become a Net Zero business.

Peppermint have re-measured their carbon emissions in 2022 and 2023 and have managed to all but eradicate their scope 1 and 2 emissions and reduce their scope 3 emissions by over 85% – but recognise there is still a huge amount of work to do in order to achieve their desired Net Zero status. An objective they are fully committed to.

Claire O’Neill:

“Working with a forward-looking company like Peppermint Events is a pleasure for us at AGF. Not only are we given the remit to push boundaries, but their position in the industry and openness for collaboration means that we're able to tackle issues that face promoters, venues, artists and other suppliers in tandem. No operator in events acts in isolation from others, and so having a 360-degree view and influence on the green direction of travel throughout the event design, planning, partnerships, delivery, and review phases means we can make positive change more impactfully and quickly together."

Adam Hempenstall also reflected on their approach: "Peppermint recognises that while there are some obvious easy wins in the short term, the heavy lifting comes further down the line. Our strategy is about embedding sustainable practices into everything we do – from office waste to transport policies – making it a core pillar of our culture. But we can’t do it alone; collaboration and partnerships with clients and suppliers are key to building a sustainable ecosystem. After all, one business's scope 3 is another’s scope 1."
