Extreme weather events are increasing year on year due to climate change, with heatwaves and heavy rainfall being particularly prevalent. Global warming is already at 1.3 degrees C and set to hit 1.5 around 2030. In this presentation, climate scientist Professor Richard Betts from the Met Office and University of Exeter in the UK, will discuss the latest data on climate change and the future outlook for both our industry and the planet, including changes that are already locked-in that we have no choice but to adapt to and those that could still be avoided if we took urgent action and reduced our emissions. The presentation will be followed by a discussion with representatives from events that were hit by extreme weather in 2023.
