Green Gathering Crowned UK’s Greenest Festival in 2024

At last night’s UK Festival Awards 2024 ceremony at Document in Bristol, we at AGF proudly presented Green Gathering with the Greener Festival Award.

The annual event celebrates the very best of the UK Festival scene and provides the opportunity for festival organisers and suppliers to get together, reflect on the past season, and celebrate the amazing achievements of the year.

Em Weirdigan, Green Gathering Festival Director, said after receiving the award:
"Green Gathering has won the Greenest Festival Award at UKFA four times in recent years. We really believed that this year one of the newer festivals with a passion for sustainable operations would leapfrog us to take the Green crown. In fact, we won again! And, because we weren't expecting it, we were as excited as if we were winning for the first time. We really do pour heart and soul into making our festival sustainable and inclusive - a version of the world we'd like to live in.
To be recognised and appreciated for that is such a rewarding, joyous feeling!"

AGF congratulates Green Gathering and their fellow nominees in the Greener Festival category: American Express presents BST Hyde Park, Bristol Harbour Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Green Gathering, Green Man, and Uber One presents All Points East.

The shortlisted events for the UK Greener Festival Award are selected from those who have applied for our certification and who have demonstrated outstanding success in reducing their environmental impacts and changing the industry for the better. The festival that scored the highest in our UK assessments during summer 2024 is crowned the worthy winner.

Claire O’Neill, our CEO, said:
"Green Gathering are pioneers in the green festival space. It is part of their very fabric of existence. 100% party with purpose. To present this award at the UK Festival Awards is extra special, as the home of our UK nominees and winners since 2007!"

Andy Lenthall
of the UK Festival Awards added:
"There’s nothing more important than sustainability, which means it’s crucial for the UK Festival Awards to recognise the festivals that strive for excellence. With a robust audit process, A Greener Future has always been best placed to choose those festivals that are doing what it takes to drive the industry towards a truly sustainable future."

In February 2025, the world’s greenest festival will be announced, alongside all AGF-certified events from the UK and worldwide, at the International AGF Awards, supported by Skydiamond, during the Green Events & Innovations Conference, GEI17, at the Royal Lancaster London on 25th February 2025. Last year, Paradise City of Belgium took home the top accolade: the International Greener Festival Award 2024.
